Removal and Installation of the Slotted Hex Nut
These instructions are intended for all Hubbell / CHANCE® Strap Hoist including Convertible, 1-Ton, and 2-Ton Hoists models manufactured between January 1st 2023 & August 1st 2024.
Tools:
- Small hammer
- 1/8” punch (“roll pin” punch is best)
- 15/16” open end wrench
- Small 2×4 wooden block or equivalent spacer
- Optional: telescoping magnet
NOTICE: Steps 1 through 5 apply to the slotted hex nuts located on both the upper and lower shank hook assemblies.
Step 1. Use the wooden block to support the upper hook. Remove the roll pin by using the hammer and 1/8” roll pin punch to drive the pin out through the bottom of hook shank. The roll pin will fall into the body of the hoist and can be easily retrieved with the magnet.
Step 2. Remove the slotted hex nut using the 15/16” open end wrench.
Step 3. Install the new slotted hex nut with the slots facing away from the assembly. Screw the nut clockwise onto the hook threads until the hole for the roll pin is fully visibly through the slots in the nut. Before installing the roll pin, make sure the safety latch on the hook assembly engages properly in the closed position, and can be pressed and rotated into the open position on both sides.
Step 4. Re-install the roll pin using the punch and hammer to drive the pin flush with the side of the nut. Verify the roll pin is centered within the slots of the hex nut.
Step 5. Verify that the hook rotates freely in both directions, and that the safety latch closes securely.
