CHANCE® Multi-Range Voltage Detector (161kV)

Design Features

Use the ingenious CHANCE® Multi-Range Voltage Detector (MRVD) to confirm that a line is de-energized prior to maintenance.

The MVRD works as a field intensity meter, calibrated to read approximate line-to-line voltage when connected to any phase conductor. It responds to the magnitude of the field gradient between its end probe and floating electrode (at the universal fitting).

When the fitting nears a ground, separate phase or other voltage source, the reading runs high. Near a jumper, or equipment of the same phase, the reading will be low.

Unlike “fuzz-sticking” or “glow-detecting,” the MRVD gives metered readout capable of distinguishing actual line voltage from static or feedover from an adjacent line.

And since the MRVD is not a voltmeter, no specific accuracy is claimed by the manufacturer or can be assumed by the user.

Operation

Available in modes for various ranges, the MRVD must be mounted on proper length hotstick for the voltage class involved. The complete instructions come with easy, illustrated step-by-step procedures. Internal circuit and push-button permit check before and after each use to confirm operational condition of instrument and battery
